
Foo Chie Haur has served as the Principal Flute of the Malaysian National Symphony Orchestra since 2009. In addition to this role, he has appeared as principal flute with the Tutan Festival Orchestra, Philharmonic Winds of Malaysia, and Bachfest Malaysia, which toured Leipzig in 2024. He has also performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Beyond orchestral engagements, Chie Haur is an active solo and chamber musician. He performs regularly with Verses Music, notably in the “Iberia” program—a nationwide tour featuring guitarist YS Tang. He has also performed on the Baroque flute with local early music ensembles such as Wicked Music People and the KL Madrigal Singers. In addition, he is a member of Flutes in the Taman, a flute ensemble project curated by Lawrence Chiu.
In 2007 and 2008, Chie Haur was selected to join the Asian Youth Orchestra, comprising talented young musicians from across Asia. He received intensive orchestral training in Hong Kong and participated in concert tours across major cities in Japan, China, and Taiwan. He was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in 2008 and 2009 by Trinity Guildhall for his LTCL and FTCL performance diplomas. He is also a prize winner of the Ipoh Music Festival—solo category competition and the HSBC Wind Competition.
He studied flute with Sofia Cosme, Yukako Yamamoto, Hristo Dobrinov, and the renowned flute pedagogue Trevor Wye, author of the acclaimed Practice Books for the Flute.
Chie Haur currently teaches at several universities, including UiTM, UPM, and UCSI, and also occasionally provides flute repair services.
