What is E-mechanism?
It is difficult to play mi (E note) in the third octave on a flute. The E mechanism is a key system to make that note easier to play. Since the E note is widely used in beautiful melody of classical or romantic period works and high-skill requiring modern music, the E mechanism is quite useful.

What is Offset-G?
Traditionally, a flute’s toneholes were in a straight row. However, more and more flautists and flute teachers are using (and recommend) flutes where the G key stands above the other keys – for many, this feels more natural (and can aid finger positioning). From our observation, more than 90% of flutist prefers Offset-G option nowadays.

What is C-Foot?
Footjoints typically come in two lengths. The standard, the “C Footjoint”, is the shorter of the two and allows you to play notes down to a low C note. For brand new beginners, this is usually fine.

What is Open or Closed Keys?
Covered keys are easier to play than traditional ring keys, as the pad cup seals the underlying tonehole as soon as the key is closed – exact finger placement (which would be necessary with a ring key) isn’t as crucial. This makes covered keys ideal for beginners (especially those with smaller fingers).
Open/Ring keys allow you to precisely and subtly control pitch and intonation as you play – many intermediate and advanced flutist prefer this level of control.

Are there cheaper options for a beginner flute?
Yes there is, but we do not recommend to get anything lower than the models mentioned above. This is because the quality of flute is affecting the learning speed in a direct way, student will spend their time “making a sound” rather than “playing music” especially when the instrument is very hard to control. You may opt for 2nd hand Yamaha/Pearl flutes, but make sure to consult your teacher as there are many fake Yamaha in the market. Please beware that any new Yamaha flute below RM2000 is a SCAM!
I saw a flute in Lazada / Shopee and it costs me only RM300~600, can I use it for lesson?
NOT RECOMMENDED. These flutes usually can’t produce proper tone and very difficult to even make a sound, which causing poor learning experience and momentum. You may exposed to the risk of lead poisoning because these instrument doesn’t undergoes a proper silver plating procedure.
How often do I need to service my flute?
We recommend getting your flute serviced (also known as a “clean-oil-adjust” or “COA” or annual maintenance) once a year assuming normal use. Please visit this link for more information about flute service: https://theflutestoremalaysia.com/repair-service/
